Project overview:
Southshore was established in the 1960’s, Dean Cowell (homeowner/architect) was inspired to create his home with characteristics of that era. The design references Christchurch buildings of the 1960’s with the use of designed embossed blockwork and structural steel.
The external spiral staircase and internal floating stairs were the main structural features of this build and could only be achieved using structural steel. Both staircases were completely assembled off site and transported as one. Structural steel was used keep things smaller to allow for bigger cantilevers. Dean wanted to prove that you can still build interesting in a flood plain zone.
