Hospital Tower

VIP are proud to be a part of the extension of the Waipapa Tower 3 project in partnership with a tier 1 contractor. The new 6-storey building was erected on top of the 3-storey live hospital which was completed in 2019.

With restrictions on noise and vibration, VIP had to manually tighten over 5000 bolts. With 900T of custom welded beams required, planning of shipping from the mill was essential to meeting the tight pre-works program. Each of the columns weighed over 4.5T and were connected using specialised 10.9 TCB bolts shipped out of Europe.

The two new lift shafts which will service the new building were fully fabricated and welded in house at 4.5m wide by 9.8m long and measuring at 5.4m high. These weighed in at just under 10T which pushed the tower crane on-site to its limits at 74m of reach.
